Hi there!

Thing is, I haven't actually changed any source code, I've just compiled various public domain software packages and included them in the modified firmware. All the new code used in the modified firmware is available free for download from the respective developers in the exact same form as I've used it, which covers what the GPL expects me to do I think. I don't think I have to have verbatim copies of the original source files available for download from my site as long as they're available at their original locations.

In addition to this, the Mvix Community Wiki keeps a fairly good explanation on how to go about doing the exact same yourself (I've contributed to it as well), all the way from building your own tool chain to unwrapping and rewrapping a firmware image. I didn't really feel the need to duplicate all of that information here. However, I will add a paragraph to the article above pointing people in the right direction. Thank you for the heads up!

PS Compiling for the Mvix platform is a chore, and it being ancient you don't get too much help from recent developments in the compiler/kernel/libraries/packages either. Rather the opposite, as newer software will fail to build properly with such old tools. So be prepared for an up hill battle if you're not already familiar with cross compiling for the ARM architecture. Good luck and feel free to drop me a note if you need specific help!
